Dogon sculptural figures such as this one, could be owned by a family, an individual or the community. If owned by the community, they were not supposed to be seen, except at appointed times and by relevant elders.
This one has a weathered look and is sublimely surrealistic.
Was supposedly used for ancestor cult.
