We Speak African Art!
Ashanti, Ghana. Pigments.
Height 14", sitting on a hand carved throne. Deity and throne carved from same piece of wood.Termed, Akuaba, a protective, guidance spirit.
Oral history has it that Akuaba (Akwaaba, Akwaba) used to be the benefactor deity of widowed women and orphaned children.
At any rate, a mother/child spirit is priceless to Africans, as is a mother/child image to countless groups around the world.
